I made this dress as part of my A Level fashion coursework, the units title was 'chaos and confusion'. I then chose to focus my research for my dress on hoarding, an amass of collected items kept by a hoarder.
I had so much fun during the design process of this garment. However, I came across several challenges. Covid 19 meant schools had to close whilst I was working on the unit, this meant I had to complete my dress at home with much less equipment or guidance.
Despite all the challenges I managed to finish my garment to the same high quality I wanted, and even took these amazing shots of the dress on my one walk of the day we were allowed at the time.
The final dress reflects on things hoarders collect through the junk I have sewn onto the dress. I also used black fabric as the base to show how dark and gloomy the hoarders rooms are and how lonely they often feel. I chose to have the one strap white to mirror the small amount of space in a hoarders room.
This garment was made out of mostly recycled materials, even the fabric used was an old bed sheet!
